What Is Dance Therapy?

Dance therapy, also known as movement therapy or dance movement
psychotherapy, is a holistic practice that uses expressive dance as a tool for
emotional release, self-discovery, and mental well-being. It's not about learning
choreography or perfecting technique — it’s about using movement as a form of
therapy to process emotions, improve body awareness, and support personal growth.

What to Expect in Our 1-Hour Dance Therapy Sessions

Each 60-minute dance therapy class is thoughtfully guided by a certified dance
movement therapist and includes:

  • Gentle Warm-Up (10 Minutes) Begin by grounding yourself through breathwork, body awareness, and slow, intuitive movement.
  • Guided Expressive Movement (30 Minutes) Using a blend of structured and improvisational exercises, participants explore emotions, memories, and inner states through dance and movement. No prior dance experience is required — all bodies and abilities are welcome.
  • Creative Integration (15 Minutes) This segment allows time for reflection, journaling, or sharing experiences in a group setting. It helps connect the physical experience to emotional insight.
  • Cool Down and Closing (5 Minutes) End the session with calming stretches, stillness, and gratitude to bring the body and mind into balance.
